The color, symbolizes the sun, the eternal source of energy. It spreads warmth, optimism, enlightenment. It is the liturgical color of deity Saraswati - the goddess of knowledge.

The shape, neither a perfect circle nor a perfect square, gives freedom from any fixed pattern of thoughts just like the mind and creativity of a child. It reflects eternal whole, infinity, unity, integrity & harmony.

The ' child' within, reflects our child centric philosophy; the universal expression to evolve and expand but keeping a child’s interests and wellbeing at the central place.

The name, "Maa Sharda;" is a mother with divinity, simplicity, purity, enlightenment and healing touch, accommodating all her children indifferently. This venture itself is an offering to her........

Vasant Panchami – From Doctor’s Perspective

Invited guest editorial in FPA Times (magazine of Family Physician Association of Rajkot)-February-2015

Vasant Panchami is the great Indian tradition of welcoming spring; the queen of seasons! With the arrival of spring, the nature comes out alive with beautiful colors of flowers and the chirping melodies of birds. The dull arduous winters   are over giving in the warmth of golden yellow mustard fields. In contrast to the beauty, lust and romance associated with Vasant Panchami,   lays the significance of the worship of Saraswati the deity of knowledge and enlightenment.

The profession as a medical practitioner grants us a special status in the society. Within the frame of name and fame, lies the aesthetic white coat of a doctor. Just as the grandeur of the white clothes, white pearls, white lotus which Goddess Saraswati embellishes, our white coat, (virtual, if not physical) should accompany us every time we play the role of a medical practitioner, reminding us of our responsibilities.

Saraswati is the Devi of ‘vach’ meaning words or speech. If our treatment cannot relieve the sufferings of patients, at least our words should be soothing enough to calm his anxiety.

The vehicle of Goddess Saraswati is white swan or “Hans” which has the “Viveka” to separate the milk from the water (neer-kshir). Similarly we should learn to pick out pearls of wisdom and ethics amidst the pebbles of greed and mal practices.

The Goddess beholds a Veena with seven strings, signifying the balance of the seven chakras of our body. Rather more important for doctors is seeking the fine tuning in the seven aspects of life; health, wealth, family, practice, society, knowledge and spirituality. Even if one of the strings is pulled beyond a stress limit or is let loose, the life misses its tune.

Yellow flowers and yellow foods are offered to the Goddess. Yellow mustard crop in the fields symbolize the ‘Vasant ritu’. Yellow is the Sun, the God of warmth, energy and radiance.  Sitting on a doctor’s chair as pure and respectful as the white lotus “Asana” of Goddess Saraswati, we are bound to radiate service and smiles no matter what we receive!

If we can imbibe these virtues, we can enjoy “Vasant” in our life and practice, every day.

Happy Vasant- Panchami!
