Lessons From Little Ones – 8

Part of series of articles published in IMAX (monthly journal of IMA Rajkot) based on real life incidents-2016

(As adults,  we are always eager to teach children  but often the little ones give us beautiful lessons in unexpected ways……Sharing here a series of such incidents mostly with my own children and few from other kids as well. They have created long lasting imprints on my memory.)

Money matters!

The recent drive of withdrawal of old currency of Rs 500 and 1000 by our respected prime minister came as a welcome step for many and as shocking news for few. Even children were not spared from the post Diwali bomb-blast.

While we were discussing the breaking news in the family, everyone seemed a bit worried and anxious about the long term effects of the decision and what could be the best possible way to manage the crisis.

On the other side, there were carefree cheers on the face of our kids. We overheard them talking, “Thank God, We are lucky that all our currencies are used up. Now we don’t have any tension to exchange old notes”.

The fact was that throughout the year, they have been earning pocket money as token for the efforts, regularity and outstanding performances in the academic as well as non academic activities in school. This Diwali, their long cherished dream of buying branded tennis racquets with their pocket money was fulfilled. And in doing so, all their savings, including the withdrawn currency was used up and most importantly well in time.

This made us laugh and realize that money does matter to all, despite the amount or age!
